MO quick point, don't believe it will take the market too long to figure out the value of IDCC's patent pool and I wonder if the Chinese or the Taiwanese will make a bid. I believe HTC could help its own cause here.

‘Frothy’ Patent Market Seen With Kodak, InterDigital Selling
By Susan Decker
July 21 (Bloomberg) -- Technology companies led by Apple Inc. and Google Inc. are creating a patent-buying frenzy as they seek an edge in the global smartphone market, boosting prices for intellectual property.
The latest sellers looking to take advantage of the demand for patents are Eastman Kodak Co. and InterDigital Inc. Kodak, the 131-year-old camera company, said yesterday it was selling its digital-imaging portfolio, while InterDigital, a designer of mobile-phone chips, said July 19 it was up for sale.

Fueling the buying binge is an auction of patents owned by bankrupt Nortel Networks that soared in value to $4.5 billion from $900 million.
"We’re sort of getting frothy here," Conley said in an interview. "We’re just seeing a huge up-tick in interest and initiatives in companies to get their intellectual property houses in order."

"I wouldn’t want to be Google and miss out on many more of these blocks of patents."
"Every Wall Street arbitrager figured out something sold for $4.5 billion," Epstein said. "I’m not sure anyone on Wall Street understands what a patent is, and it’s going to take time before anyone figures out whether InterDigital is going to go through what Nortel did."
