Allen West Fundraising With DNC Chairwoman Insult

by Christine Wilkie

7/20/11

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) reiterated his controversial descriptions of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) on Wednesday in an email to supporters, and appealed for donations because "it's times like this that I need friends with me."

The fundraising email is titled "Vile, Despicable, and Unprofessional," and it echoes a letter West sent to Wasserman Schultz, copying congressional leaders, on Tuesday in which he called the DNC chair "vile, despicable and cowardly," and said she was "not a lady."

West has come under fire in the past 24 hours for the email, which some considered overly hostile. In fact, less than an hour after the email was sent, West told The Huffington Post's Jen Bendery that he had "just apologized to" Wasserman Schultz.

West may feel a bit of regret over the comments, but judging by this fundraising appeal he feels he can profit (politically) off of them as well.

From: Allen West For Congress Date: Wed, Jul 20, 2011 at 2:32 PM Subject: Vile, Despicable, and Unprofessional

Those three words sum up my feelings about Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.
By now, you've probably heard the story. But I wanted you to hear it from me.

Yesterday, on the floor of the House, I publicly expressed my support for "Cut, Cap, and Balance" -- the leading conservative proposal to help us get our spiraling debt and spending under control.

Once I left the floor, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (DNC Chair) -- who it seems does little except act as an attack dog for the "vast left wing conspiracy" -- attacked me personally for supporting the legislation.

It's not a coincidence that she is the Chairwoman of the DNC and that the Democrats are making me target #1 for defeat.
In a discussion of grave importance to this nation's future, she somehow finds time to try to score political points. And she doesn't have the guts to do it to my face!

Episodes like these show that her agenda isn't to improve the lives of Floridians or to stand on principle. She's an attack dog for the liberal, progressive wing of the Democratic Party -- plain and simple.

And it's times like this that I need friends with me.

Please make a donation of $25 or more at my website right now. And join thousands of other patriotic Americans in standing up against the vicious attack from the Democratic National Party.
Steadfast and Loyal,

Allen West

Just in case you missed exactly what it was that Wasserman Schultz said which earned her the vile and insulting attack from Allen West, here's a transcript of her comments from the floor of the House:

"The gentleman from Florida, who represents thousands of Medicare beneficiaries, as do I, is supportive of this plan that would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries. Unbelievable from a member from south Florida."

Allen West: Debbie Wasserman Schultz 'Vile', 'Not A Lady'

07/19/11

WASHINGTON -- A Republican congressman from Florida turned to email on Tuesday to call a Democratic colleague from the state "vile, despicable and cowardly" after she called into question his stance on Medicare during the debate over a spending cap and balanced budget bill before the House.

Rep. Allen West, a first-term Republican from south Florida, wasn't shy about his online outburst. He sent his peppery email to numerous lawmakers as well as his target, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

The subject line of the email: "Unprofessional and Inappropriate Sophomoric Behavior from Wasserman Schultz."

The e-mail said: "Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up."

In her remarks on the House floor, Wasserman Schultz said: "The gentleman from Florida, who represents thousands of Medicare beneficiaries, as do I, is supportive of this plan that would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries. Unbelievable from a member from south Florida."

She was alluding to a GOP-backed bill to reduce the debt and amend the Constitution to require a balanced federal budget. The House later approved the bill 234-190, but it is unlikely to pass the Democratic Senate.

In his email, West said Wasserman Schultz has proven "that you are not a Lady" and "shall not be afforded due respect from me!" He said he was alerting House leaders to her "heinous characterless behavior."

A spokesman for Wasserman Schultz, Jonathan Beeton, said in an email of his own: "I don't think that Congressman West is upset at the congresswoman, but rather with the fact that she highlighted that he and other Republicans are once again trying to balance the budget on the backs of seniors, children and the middle class. ... The truth hurts."

West's office did not back off the criticism after the email was widely distributed. A spokeswoman said Wasserman Schultz had taken "another cowardly cheap shot at Congressman West."

Note the Allen West, after he made his comments on the House floor in support of the bill that was being debated, left immediately afterwards not even sticking around to hear what other's had to say and then he comes back with this totally outrageous over-the-top email as if Wasserman Schultz had somehow committed libel or accused him of some heinous crime. You get the feeling that he's a bit thin skinned. I wonder how he would behave if he was sitting in the White House and had to put up with some of the crap that's being directed at the its current resident.
