I hope you are right.
But wasn't it obvious what they were going to do? And yet the electorate voted them in.
As it is, we've been saved from their dogmas because the Senate and the President are not going to sign up for them.
I doubt the tea party can win the presidency. But they can be effective in preventing necessary actions via the House. And I'm not convinced they'll get themselves chucked out at the next election. They seem to have roughly half of the Republican votes, which is enough to win lots of seats.
Meanwhile, the US runs very real risks due to the inability of its government to act.
