DGP - that is ONE side of the story - and I doubt that any 'witnesses' would ever dare contradict it.

What the POLICE want, especially when they are dealing with ANYBODY over even trifling matters - is for NOBODY to be armed, except themselves.

Simply unacceptable. Many of these ASSHOLES that wear police uniforms are sociopathic, lying thugs - and the ONLY reason they are 'cops' is because of the 'absolute life and death control' that they can exercise over others.

Some pretty damn scary bastards wear the uniform.

You sir, seem to have had the privilege in life to never be a 'target' of theirs.

I have and still am - and have seen FIRST HAND their TOTAL disregard of the law.

When a cop LAUGHS at you when you state, in the presence of OTHER COPS, that he is "Under Citizens" arrest - in FULL STATUTORY COMPLIANCE as provided to the Citizens of Texas - you've got one HELL OF A PROBLEM - with police that have contempt for the law.

Sorry, DGP - I don't go along with the mantra on this type of stuff - and have seen the police LIE, under oath, way too many times. It starts in the Academies in Texas (including the highly touted one at Texas A&M) - and gets worse from there.

MANY of the 'younger ones' are absolutely the worst human beings I have ever run into - real bastards.

I really AM thankful when I encounter a DECENT POLICEMAN - because they are an extremely rare breed today.

If this policeman had not had a gun, the guy would still be alive.

The investigation into a fatal shooting in Snyder is essentially complete as a Snyder police officer continues to improve.
Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke said the Texas Rangers' investigation lacks only lab reports, which could take weeks to complete.

The incident involved officers responding to a report of "shots fired" in the 700 block of 26th Street about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. As Cpl. Darrell Campbell and Officer Lee Ortiz were questioning several individuals, Dwayne Birmingham pulled a pistol and shot Campbell in the head. Birmingham then turned on Ortiz, who returned fire and struck Birmingham several times.

Campbell was flown to University Medical Center in Lubbock. Birmingham was declared dead at the scene.

Ranger Phil Vandygriff's report states that Ortiz's actions were completely justified and the officer will return to work sometime next week. He has been on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol after officer-involved shootings.

Campbell has made slow, but steady, progress at the hospital and has shown movement on both sides. He also has attempted to open his eyes a couple of times although he still remains in a coma and is listed in critical condition.

Community support for Campbell has been strong with signs at businesses, money donated to a fund for the family at American State Bank, the Snyder Rotary placing 50 American flags around his home and other displays of support including children sending get well cards.

Snyder police officers have been a constant presence at the hospital, as have Lubbock officers, to maintain a vigil and to help the family in Lubbock. Lubbock County deputies also have kept a presence at UMC.

"Cpl. Campbell has been in the prayers of the citizens of Snyder and the employees of the city and will continue to be," said Snyder Mayor Terry Martin. "He is a respected and professional member of the police department."

Martin said that members of Campbell's family as well as any first responders that assisted at the scene and members of the police department can speak with counselors at any time. "We will do anything necessary to help in this terrible situation," Martin added.

So what if both officers and maybe some other folks would be dead? No guns for anyone except criminals!
