Zim, exactly. No business I ever worked for or with was in business to throw away money. The purpose of a business is to show a profit. If the profit gets too small or goes away, the business shuts down or changes the way it operates to get back to a satisfactory profit. Why would anyone want to work 80 hours a week to make a 2% profit when they could earn 3% for doing nothing? Most businesses expect a NET profit, after expenses and taxes, of at least 10%. If the profit gets bigger then the business expands. If it gets smaller, employees lose their jobs. That is simple business 101. But KTC seems to think that business should operate at a loss while giving large amounts of money to the government. Then the government can make poor folks rich by giving them money for watching TV, playing games, and having babies.

KTC> The most likely result of this new tax is that expenses go up to $16 million and profit goes down to $4 million,

Most likely? KTC?
Over the last few years I have learned a new lesson
regarding 'economics of business'. Cut a business's
profit margin by 20% . . . and the first thing they
will try to do is recover that 20%.

(My employer regularly holds 'State of the Union'
meetings . . at first they were held in a nice place
with refreshments . . . for the last couple of years
they've been held in an open space in the back with
metal folding chairs (no padding) and no refreshments.
They talk about the desired profit margin and the fact that they will do ANYTHING to meet that profit
margin. Including mandatory days off without pay.
About five of them so far this year.)

Your 'likely result' is crap.

Zim.
