yes....that's the theory...but i'm starting to think the android ecosysytem is such a force that the licensing tolls won't slow it down a bit...ergo, will google really make an effort to play the patent game....we'll see....not doubting the nortel auction was good for us....just thinking android is a steamroller with or without idcc's patents used for defense...

I will take this as even I can figure this one out. Google made huge market share gains due to the "FREE" access to Android. Microsoft on the other hand is watching this and planning a push of their own. Microsoft and even Apple are pushing to get paid royalties on this "FREE" operating system. In the future an HTC might think twice about going with Android if they have to pay say $30 (NOT "FREE") in royalties vs using Microsofts platform. This can change the whole dynamic of the OS Market share and tip the balance in favor of Apple or even a microsoft offering. Google is patent poor and needs some horses for the horse trading that is going on and will intensify for the near future. With Interdigitals patent holdings, Google could more successfully defend their handset manufacturers. IMO, the Nortel sale would make a Google bid for Interdigital a fireworks show as Google could now look at capturing Interdigitals patents as more of a OS survival strategy. Google could also be interested in video compression which is really a free add on at this point. On a side note, if our video compression technology is the tits, why not auction off most of the 3G/LTE patents and use our ~$7B in cash to monetize our video compression assets. Should be fun to watch.
