At some point, I have got to get down to Florida to buy a condo. I've always heard how bad the NH winters are and, California boy that I am, I've got no basis for thinking I'll be immune to their effects.
I don't imagine Florida RE prices will get too much cheaper. I could probably buy a nice 2 bedroom condo or apartment... something that requires no upkeep and has minimal hurricane risk... near the ocean... for around $100k. A few years ago, that would have been unimaginable. If the market ever does improve, I believe I'll be kicking myself if I let the opportunity slip away.
Do any of you know Florida? If I'm inclined toward something with a pleasant neighborhood, near a beach and with good geography, to use as a winter retreat and a "base" from which to go on occasional cruises (out of Ft Lauderdale or Miami, right? I don't know if cruises leave from any other parts of Florida), where should I buy?
