That is what they are designed to do DGP!
You just gave a clear testimonial to that! I highly suggest them for everyone especially for computer stuff and electronic circuit board things like televisions. A good surge protector will also be a good idea for a refrigerator.

Our electric here in Greater Cincy is reasonably stable. Still, I had a motherboard get zapped a couple week-ends ago and it was protected. Go figure.

First one of those for me in a long time.

micro, I do not know how good your power grid is but mine sucks. ALL my computer stuff is on battery backup. I have never found a surge protector that works well enough to protect things on this power grid. I even have Mom's TV on battery backup because we were always having to replace them. Now, they last and last. I heard about battery backup from a fellow in Flordia, when I worked Private-line services. He said they have lots of lightning storms and the battery backups kept his stuff working. It works for me too.
