All humans are born into weakness and each individual has potentially destructive desires to which they are more personally susceptible than to others ... alcohol or drug abuse ... out-of-control gambling ... homosexuality and other sexual deviancy ... violent domination of others ... financially ruinous, profligate spending ... eating disorders ... promiscuous heterosexuality ... laziness ... etc. ... etc. ... etc. All of the potentially destructive desires we humans are afflicted with appear to offer a much more pleasurable alternative to responsible behavior ... and make no mistake, it is behavorial - we choose to either deny or act out on our more base impulses. It is not some random disease or genetic makeup over which we have no control ... it is one human weakness out of many that afflict everyone to one degree or another ... and it is the choice we make to either rise above our personal weakness or give into it that decides whether our human frailties have destructive control over our lives or not. When people give in to their personal weaknesses, there is no excuse ... it is a personal failure ... and such failure is not admirable and it is not something that should be celebrated as an "acceptable lifestyle" simply because there is a sufficiently large enough number of people who do not want to admit the fact of their personal failure to anyone, least of all, to themselves. The truth hurts ... we all fail and fall well short of the Glory of God ... but, that does not mean we can simply redefine the truth in an attempt to mask our own failures. Such attempts are childish, dishonest, unhealthy, and, in the end, do not change the facts one iota.

The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic, and a killer. It has never yet melted. ~ D.H. Lawrence
