June 24, 2011
The U.S. economy expanded modestly in the first quarter even as weakness persisted in the housing markets and as the Federal Reserve lowered its outlook for growth. For the week ended June 24, the S&P 500 Index fell 0.2% to finish at 1,268 (for a year-to-date total return—including price change plus dividends—of about 1.8%). The yield of the 10-year U.S. Treasury note fell 6 basis points to 2.88% (for a year-to-date decline of 42 basis points).
