With a weak job market weighing on his presidency, Barack Obama heard ideas Monday from a private-sector task force of some two-dozen business executives on how to boost employment.

Neither President Obama nor most economists see quick fixes to the nation's 9.1 percent unemployment rate. But the president's official jobs council offered a list of "fast-action" proposals that the council said could create more than a million jobs without the need for major legislation from Congress.

The proposals come as the economy has slowed to a disappointing crawl, and as Washington policymakers are mired in tense and politicized negotiations over the federal budget. Some new jobs policies could potentially help both the economy and offer the president a chance to stand above partisan politics, locking arms with leaders from the business community.

(Article does continue.)

Zim: What I see, is more of the same governmental
stupidity that got U.S. into this mess. What I see
no trace of, is the things we really need to be
doing to get U.S. out of it.

In no particular order:

LOTS and LOTS of more and 'cheaper' energy.

Kick ALL welfare and medicaire etc. etc. plans down
to the State level. NO federal funding or 'control'
over such programs.

Outlaw 'earmarks' and all 'line item' thingies in any
and all federal legislations - - - Make it impossible
for any one congress critter to slick a spending
program or other legislation into a bill just cause
'they' want it.

States need to coerce welfare recipients into working.
(Probably lowering wages in the process - which would
make 'made in America' more competitive.)

Rather than 'incentives' to try to get manufacturers
to make jobs . . . we need to reduce the red tape
our entrepreneurs must wade through.

How about solar panels and inverters on top of our
school buildings - installed and ran by the local
power companies with the schools getting a quarter
of the watts 'free' as 'rent'? (Paid for by the
power companies.)
