I think we are beginning to see how the world, as we know it, will end. And it will not be because of some comet hitting the Earth or the Sun going nova, but rather because some computer somewhere is going to reduce the populations of the world to the status of paupers and the entire infrastructure will collapse, and by the time that it's back up and running, millions, if not billions, of people will have died from starvation, famine or war.

This Sunday on "60 Minutes"

Sunday, June 5 at 7 p.m. ET/PT

When U.S. stocks plummeted 600 points in 15 minutes in the spring of 2010, a legal but controversial computer trading method called "high-frequency trading" played a key role in worsening the near calamity known as the "Mini Market Crash." In our first story, Steve Kroft gets rare access to the secretive world of high-frequency trading, whose ability to trade thousands of shares in milliseconds has caught the attention of regulators.
