I have discovered a couple things over years that for our lifestyle, a credit card or two is a handy thing, especially while traveling.
We exclusively purchase our gasoline with one. We also pay for all our hotel expenses same way and of course, I occasionally will purchase some things from some internet stores that are reputable and I use a Paypal account to do that as well.
So far this one instance was the on;y time when someone had gotten a CC account number of mine and that covers a pretty long period of time.
Of course, we also get some monetary rewards for using this card which we take advantage of and we always pay our bill in full when it comes. We don't carry balances.
One time about 1200 miles from home we blew a tire.
I had a PAIR replaced and used the card to pay for them. This is an example of why it is always good to carry one on your person and not to ever let it out of your possession.
I don't fault people who feel more comfortable just paying with cash, but I have found not every place takes cash but they will always take a credit card.
Just differences in outlooks I suppose.
