Wish we had one of these. Our grid is so bad it causes TVs, etc. to crash and burn.

Beacon Power set to open N.Y. plant next month
Boston Business Journal - by Kyle Alspach
Date: Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 1:32pm EDT

Beacon Power Corp. (Nasdaq:BCON) said Wednesday that it expects its first commercial plant, located in New York state, to be fully operational by the end of the month.

The Tyngsborough, Mass.-based company, a maker of “flywheel” energy storage technology, said the Stephentown, N.Y., plant is currently operating at 18 megawatts out of 20 megawatts total. Beacon plans to host a ceremony marking the completion of the project on July 12.

The flywheel systems provide frequency regulation service, which helps to stabilize the electric grid by balancing power supply levels during moment-to-moment variations in demand.

In April, Beacon Power said it had gotten the go-ahead to use the majority of a federal grant for the construction of its second commercial plant, to be located in Pennsylvania.
