It was a few years back but I got a bill with a large item on it. I called the CC company and after only two months I finally jumped through enough hoops to get it removed. The item was shipped to a different state and nothing matched up with me or any of my family but it was my credit card number. I suspect someone was one digit off and the mistake was not caught.
Personally, I am a cash man. No paper trail and harder to steal. I have a money clip in my pocket because of what a friend once told me. He said that if someone comes up with a gun and wants money, you pull out the money clip, throw it one way and run the other.
