Actually I agree with you. It's the fact that companies will hire people with no questions asked which is attracting a large percentage of those who do come here illegally. Besides, if companies were forced to obey the law, perhaps they would find that it might be in their best interests to hire either American workers or at least those immigrants who are here legally, which would result in many benefits for all of us. Among them, more workers paying taxes, including payroll taxes, and we wouldn't need as many INS agents as the number of raids on businesses would be going down if the employers knew that they would be fined and perhaps hauled away themselves in handcuffs.
You're right, this is where we need to start. Once this is fully enforced the rest of the problem should be somewhat smaller.
Then if we could just take the profit motive out of drugs, that would address the BIGGEST issue we have in terms of the amount of time and money that is spent trying to 'protect our borders'.
