Acacia Subsidiary Acquires Rights to 30 Mobile Communications Patents

Acacia Expands Management Team

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., May 24, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Acacia Research Corporation ACTG +1.58% announced today that Curtis (Curt) Dodd has joined the Acacia Research Group LLC as Vice President.
Mr. Dodd was most recently Vice President, Patents and Counsel at Wi-LAN Inc. (2007-2011) where he managed patent related matters associated with Wi-LAN's wireless, DSL and cable access licensing programs and led patent due diligence on new patent acquisitions.
Mr. Dodd was previously Intellectual Property Counsel, Nortel Networks (2003-2007) and worked with various business units including with Nortel's advanced wireless research group (Wireless Technology Laboratories) to develop an infrastructure for better capturing and managing its 4G wireless intellectual property. He had a close working relationship with the 4G standards team and was named as inventor on two applications. Based on the success of its 4G program, Nortel launched a new licensing and marketing campaign. This portfolio is a significant component of the Nortel patent portfolio being auctioned with an opening bid of $900 million.
He started his career as an Associate with Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (2002-2003) as a member of the high tech patent litigation group.
Mr. Dodd holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of New Brunswick.
