We are getting ready to do a San Quentin tour for the younger folks in the family, FIL worked there, back when they had a cotton mill, weaving for sheeting, clothing, etc.. That went away, and he moved into the wood shop. Was a half hour from retiring after 30 years when he was murdered... So there is a memorial inside for all the Officer's killed in the line of duty, the young folks want to visit... Lots of strict regs on dress, as well as a non-negotiation agreement to sign off on before entering... We's done these a few times, some back when FIL was alive, dinner, entertainment and all back then, no more, too dangerous...
The clanging of the main gates as you are ushered in is memorable... There's been a push to close, relocate the place, but, so far no go... ...
