A grand jury in Manhattan indicted Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former managing director of the International Monetary Fund, on charges related to an alleged sexual assault of a hotel housekeeper, prosecutors said Thursday.
The disclosure came as Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s lawyers made their second attempt to get bail, which would free him from his cell at Rikers Island. The prosecutors did not say what Mr. Strauss-Kahn was charged with; the criminal complaint included various counts of sexual assault, including attempted rape, sexual abuse and criminal sexual act.
