So far we've had:

- That Obama's personal vanity and desire to improve his OP ratings was the driving factor in ordering the mission. The evidence? None of course. He received reliable evidence that OBL was hiding in the compound, but did not have definitive proof, nevertheless he ordered that the mission proceed, as president and C-in-C it would have been a gross dereliction in duty not to have done something. So, on his head be it, naturally had it been a wild goose chase the far right would have absolved him of any blame, just as they have always absolved Clinton for not attacking and killing Osama when he lacked proof when he was in the Sudan and Afghanistan. And of course the failure of Bush to kill him at Tora Bora was irrelevant.

- That the mission had nothing to do with Obama and that he's milking it for every ounce of publicity. Nevermind that he ordered the mission and it would have been a personal disaster had it gone wrong in any way. But nevertheless I expect him to see him on board an aircraft carrier kept at sea for the occasion and appear under a banner saying "Mission Accomplished" while receiving adulatory praise from Fox News.

- That Obama violated Pakistani sovereignty. That would be the same Pakistani government on whose soil he'd been hiding for six years and who are known to have links to him. Obama was meant to trust them and keep them informed so they had time to allow OBL to escape. It's also the same right-wing who had no problems with an attack on Iraq despite a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and want the US to attack Iran.

- That George Bush should really take the credit. Yep really...I can't work this one out, but that's what they are claiming.

- That OBL should have been taken alive and not dead and should therefore have been tranquilised if he wouldn't come of his own volition. Yep, send in 25 highly trained men at night into a compound that may have contained a large number of hostile armed to the teeth fanatical opponents hell bent on committing suicide if necessary and arm them only with tranquiliser darts. Makes perfect sense to me...

- That Osama bin Laden wasn't given a chance to surrender. Like he was going to hold his hands up and say "fair cop you got me bang to rights and if only you meddling kids hadn't interefered" and voluntarily walk into captivity.

- That Osama was killed several years ago, coincidentally at a time when Bush was president although he kept it secret for some reason and that this mission was fabricated. You have to think Conservapedia for this gem. For some reason I'm barred from their website, I can't think why...

Give it a few more days and some more even more bizarre conspiracy theories will come out.

From now until the end of Obama's presidency when the question "What has Obama ever achieved" gets asked the number one answer is going to be - he killed Osama bin Laden. And that is why the right are crying into their beer. He succeeded where Bush very publically failed.

Obama wins again...
