It is to our detriment as a species that science keeps getting overrun by religion and politics. Scientific principles show us how the universe actually works - not how someone wants it to work, believes it works, or thinks it should work. We need to figure this out and place science out of the reach of religious nuts and political power grabbers.
Education is key, which is exactly why the creationists want to poison it.
We cannot let that happen, lest we enter a new dark ages.
