Rising Gasoline Prices Fueling a New Crime Wave
Rising gasoline prices are bringing out a form of crime that hasn't been seen in large amounts since the oil crisis of the 1970's.
Points to Consider:
Experts say that like copper theft and other precious metals, the increase in the price of fuel has led to a rise of fuel theft by criminals siphoning gasoline and diesel from vehicles. Police say newer cars have fuel inserts that don't allow for the conventional use of hoses to siphon the fuel of a few decades ago, so many thieves are resorting to drilling holes in the tanks or the more dangerous method of cutting gas lines, which is dangerous and could possibly result in a fire or explosion.
