U.S. warns of Libya "stalemate" as Misrata battle rages

1 / 23 Medics wheel a Libyan man, who was wounded in Misrata, out of Greek ferry ''Ionian Spirit'' upon its arrival in the port of Benghazi April 21, 2011.The United States on Thursday launched armed drones against Muammar Gaddafi's troops, who pounded the rebel-held Libyan city of Misrata despite Western threats to step up military action against them. The ''Ionian Spirit'' on Thursday transported evacuees fleeing Misrata to Benghazi.

MISRATA, Libya (Reuters) - The top U.S. military officer said air strikes had hobbled Libyan forces but the conflict was moving into "stalemate" as Muammar Gaddafi's troops pressed on with their punishing siege of rebel Misrata.
