ÂChina Mobile has reported that its subscriber base has passed the 600 million mark as it also posted a 5.4% rise in its first-quarter net profit of RMB26.9 billion (US$4.1 billion).
Revenues rose by 8.3% to RMB118.2 billion, although average revenue per user (ARPU) continues to fall, reaching RMB67 (US$10.27) per month from RMB76 in the fourth quarter last year. The average minutes of use also fell to 517 from 524 in the fourth-quarter of 2010, although that would have been offset by rising SMS and MMS volumes.
The subscriber base rose by 16.8 million over the three month period. Of the total 600 million customers, just under 27 million are connected to its TD-SCDMA based 3G network.
