Dear Claudia,

Thanks to an outpouring of support from thousands concerned about proposed budget cuts, yesterday Congress passed a budget bill that preserves federal funding for public broadcasting. The funding for a few programs was unfortunately cut, but the basic funding for fiscal year 2011 was saved.

The public has told Congress that public broadcasting is an essential service that is too important to put in jeopardy.

It’s not the last time there will be calls to eliminate federal funding for public broadcasting funding. Very soon the debate over next year’s budget will heat up and the debate over federal funding for public broadcasting will continue. We encourage you to stay informed and involved by signing up for updates at www.170MillionAmericans.org.

Thank you again for all that you do for New York Public Radio and for public broadcasting across the country.

Sincerely,

Laura R. Walker
President and CEO, New York Public Radio
