[from another venue, it's as posted, says a lot about the wierd world we live in today..]

The perversity of the right
Date: 4/15/2011

I haven’t visited any of the web’s fly fishing [sites] in a few years. Mainly because they’d become so right wing they’d gag a maggot. But recently I decided to visit one of the big sites. There was a conversation going on that is as follows.

A poster was complaining that an Orvis endorsed outfitter leased several miles of a major Colorado trout stream to provide exclusive fishing for their clients. The lease on the stream had originally been held by the state. The poster’s complaint was Orvis shouldn’t be endorsing outfitters who are leasing up public fishing rights.

Now you need a little background. In the states that constitute the original thirteen, if a man owns both sides of a stream, he owns the stream bottom. In the rest of the country the laws of the old Northwest Ordinance apply. If a stream is deep enough to float a saw log at high water then the water course is held in trust for the public. This was never a problem, at any rate, out West, until trout became a very valuable commodity. The outfitter who took the lease in CO is going to charge $800 a day to fish this stream, double occupancy only, please. That is when the “Wise Use Movement” championed by ranchers looking to cash in got wind in its sails. State legislatures all over the West began to change their laws about the right of trespass up to the high water mark, Colorado being the leading example. In Montana the state supreme court declared such a law unconstitutional based on THEIR state constitution. The USSC refused to review the ruling. That hasn’t stopped the right wing greed heads in Montana.

So now another poster chimes in that Utah has now made all the watercourses private if a landowner owns both banks. After which another poster chimes in “if we don’t get rid of the liberals we won’t have anything left to fish”. At which point I mentioned that the Utah state legislature is as right wing as it gets. The board moderator then jumps in and says no political discussions. LMAO..what he meant was no facts.

But that gives you an idea why the Republicans are so successful. Nothing that party stands for is to the benefit of trout fisherman, nothing. Yet this whole board is ready to blindly defend them because of their hatred for libruhls. [sounds a lot like ranters]

It just doesn’t get any more perverse. Here's a clear example of right wing groups trying to take away these guys fishing rights and they are sill blaming it on the left. Freakin' amazing.
