In 2000 the federal government spent $1.8 trillion. This budget year we are spending exactly double, $3.6 trillion. Of that, $1.65 trillion is money we don't have.
When the President stands before us and says that despite spending doubling in ten years we cannot cut a few percent off the new level without 50,000 elderly dying and Down Syndrome kids being left to fend for themselves, that is just a disagreement, right?
That's just like disagreeing on beef or chicken for dinner, right? Or whether blue or green is a more attractive color, right?
We should be polite and respectful in our disagreements, right? Like John McCain, right?
Republicans have grown very comfortable being non players, even when they win elections. After all, isn't it more important that the media don't call us extreme than what happens to our country?
No, I don't think so. When someone says that after doubling spending in ten years we can't cut anything without killing old people, I am going to call that man and his allies what they are ... filthy lying enemies of America.
ribit, kind sir ... if this approach to the issues is upsetting to the board, I will bid adios out of respect to you. But the one thing I cannot do is John McCainize my comments.
