After promising a white iPhone 4 at its product announcement last summer, tech giant Apple is finally prepared to ship the bright version of its ubiquitous mobile device, Bloomberg is reporting. Vice president of marketing for Apple, Phil Schiller, in a twitter post, indicated that it would be on sale by spring.
Citing performance issues with light leaking into the camera portion of the device and peeling laminates under high temperature conditions, Apple delayed the production of the white iPhone 4. Apple reported that the alternate color was proving more “challenging to manufacture than we originally expected.”
White has been a popular color for Apple’s mobile devices since the original iPod released in the summer of 2001. Earlier iPhone models was available in white, as is the iPad 2, which went on sale last month.
Apple broke its own record in its last fiscal quarter, CNet reports, selling 16.2 million iPhones. The company announces its second fiscal quarter earnings next Wednesday, with some analysts predicting it’s sold an even higher number during that time.
Adding a white iPhone 4 may increase sales of the almost 1-year old phone as Apple develops its next generation of its top-selling product. Apple isn’t planning to unveil a new iPhone at its June developers’ conference, as it has for the last 2 years but will most likely announce the product in the late summer in time for holiday sales.
