Despite plane flap, McCaskill raises $1 million
Despite enduring one of the most difficult political episodes of her career, Sen. Claire McCaskill was able to raise more than $1 million last quarter.

The embattled first-term senator will report almost $1.8 million on hand, POLITICO has learned.

"While Claire is focused on her work creating jobs and growing the economy, her supporters are making sure that her campaign has the resources necessary to win next year," said Matt Teter, executive director of the Missouri Democratic Party.

The number is significant for McCaskill because she spent a chunk of the month of March apologizing for failing to timely pay taxes on her private plane.

Former congressional candidate Ed Martin announced taking in $162,000 during the first quarter. But he'll have to spend the bulk of those funds trying to win a primary against former state treasurer Sarah Steelman, and potentially Rep. Todd Akin.

Steelman's numbers were not immediately available.

National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Brian Walsh shrugged off McCaskill's haul and compared her to former Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln.

"Between raising money and hiding her shell company tax records, Senator McCaskill has certainly had a busy few months. Of course as former Senator Blanche Lincoln can attest, no amount of campaign cash matters once you've been exposed as a politician who says one thing while doing another," said Walsh.
