TX Senate delays Campus guns bill again
Associated Press
AUSTIN, Texas -- Efforts to allow concealed handguns in college classrooms have stalled in the Texas Senate for a second time.
Now the bill that seemed likely to pass when the session began may be in trouble as opponents continue to rally support to defeat it.
The Republican sponsor of the bill says he didn't have the votes to bring it up Monday. Sen. Jeff Wentworth of San Antonio said he hopes the delay is temporary.
Wentworth had to delay the bill last week when support began to wane.
Higher education officials have strongly opposed the measure. They worry guns will lead to campus violence.
Supporters call it a critical self-defense measure and gun rights issue.
