Abdul El-Sayed, the socialist who pretends not to be a socialist and is now the Democrats’ nominee in Michigan's Senate race, sat down with Fox News' Jesse Watters this week for what turned into a train wreck of an interview. He dodged. He deflected. He even tried to compare gender transitions to circumcision. It was that kind of night. Dana Perino reacted to the interview later on The Five and explained exactly why it happened.
Perino's diagnosis went further than one bad night. She said El-Sayed has never faced real pushback, because he has spent his campaign talking only to people who already agree with him. "I don't think he's matured as a candidate," she said. "I think that he skated through on the primary and got through partly because he doesn't sound like a politician."
That works when your audience already agrees with you.
