From personal observations . . .

It appears to me that at least some Asians are seeing that their kids learn how to read before first grade.

Most White women read to their children - expanding their vocabularies and preparing them for learning to read in first grade.

(And, note 1 - Most libraries and book stores have childrens book sections.)
(And, note 2 - I have three would-be-grandson Phillipinos who, between the ages of three and five, were known to pull a childrens book off my bookshelf and ask me to read to them. And, yes, I did read to them.)

Many Black Mama's can't be bothered to read to their kids. Some citing "The school is supposed to teach them everything they need to know"

So, who is 'Disadvantaging' their children?

Zim.

P.S. True story. The youngest boy and I were in the 'Junk Store' (also known as an antique mall) and he said "Chicago". And I looked at him and said, What?" And he pointed at a globe, right where 'Chicago' appeared on it. Then he pointed at 'Kansas City' and properly pronounced that city too. He was around four at the time. Then I realized, he was reading the names from NFL cities as identified on the TV - watching football with his Daddy.

The kid is six now. In Kindergarten. And he reads pretty good. He also has a very broad vocabulary.
