Just as fathers are especially protective of their daughters even after they are married, the same is true for our grand-daughters.
In my case, my lovely granddaughter is graduating college tomorrow from Cedarville University with an undergraduate degree in Physiological science.
She has been accepted already to graduate school to continue on to be a Physicians Assistant with a specialty in therapeutics and physical medicine.
As much as she has been beat up and injured over four years as the top ranked catcher in the league all four years, it is a fitting occupation for her. She knows every Orthopedic doctor in two counties. And at least four PA's. Thankfully she leaves with ALL her teeth..
She has left a huge mark on that school's women's softball program. ALL of the starting Pitchers who played with her came to watch her final game and pay her great compliments and and made her a gift that will be a lifetime treasure. SHE made those pitchers better. She was the conference's best catcher by far..
ZERO stolen bases on her in four years.. Over 20 pickoffs at first and third from players straying a tad too far. A cannon for a throwing arm played a huge role in it. She throws harder than me and her brother. I played mens class A ball until I was 42.
Two state championships in big school football. Second fastest in timed 50 yard dash. Yet, SHE has accomplished so much more. And she has turned into a beautiful young lady.. Kind hearted and soft spoken.
So this chapter of my life comes to a close going to watch my grand daughter play college fast pitch softball. She will be inducted into the colleges hall of fame as well. She is an honors student in spite of being on the road and having to study for exams and not being in those classes due to out of town games. I am so proud of her.
Tomorrow will be a day of joy and celebrating her successes in athletics but more so, her academic success and achievements in the classroom.
A very special day indeed.
