First of all, micro ... at present, we are down to the Sweet 16 (see my previous post) and the Elite 8 will not be decided until after this Thursday's and Friday's games. But, who knows? IF every Big 10 team wins on Thursday and Friday (one of 'em has to lose because Nebraska and Iowa are playing each other), you could possibly be right about having 5 of the remaining 8.

As for power basketball conferences, the SEC has been a relative latecomer. Historically, the SEC's only POWER basketball program was Kentucky. But eventually, some of the other SEC programs have dramatically improved and even won some national championships (Florida in 2006, 2007 & 2025; Arkansas in 1994). But, no ... historically speaking, the ACC, Big 12 & Big East have been the dominant conferences. And, you also have to mention the Pac 12 solely due to the dominance of Wooden's UCLA teams from the mid-60s to the mid-70s.

FIVE of the remaining elite 8 teams are from the BIG TEN.

With that in mind, it begs the question what happened to the SEC who in my mind was the super power Basketball conference?

Them and the ACC. This is a little weird to me...
