the lack of pronunciation (or maybe better described as slurring of words together) is common south of the Mason- Dixon line. 
I can still barely understand some of those really imbedded twangs from some deeper hill country folks (who are nice people very hospitable. (jes ask the main character character from Deliverance).
But alas, I am gradually losing my hearing and without my hearing aids am pretty close to deaf.
That condition is helpful when studying without distraction but its only one of a couple instances when it is helpful..
Otherwise my most common used words are "huh, what, I didn't hear you".
Here is the interesting part after a bunch of decades have gone by.. I can still in my memory hear the sound of AK 47's, and bombs from the vacation time over seas. Not all the NVA or Cong had the AK's but a lot did. And ya always knew it when you encountered them.
I suspect some of my hearing loss is attributable to being there in some major fights and the rest to the loud sounds of the machinery in my manufacturing plants.. Too many times I would be on the plant floor without them even though they were mandatory for the production employees.
I am not fond of getting older but its better than going to the factory early every day.
Its why I do consulting and some sales for a friend of mine. Gives me something to stay active in and helps his business as well. All of my former customers are purchasing his products now and that helped him grow some more.. a couple million per year..
He was good to me and fair so I am returning the favor..
One of the things with CHF (congestive heart failure) in the stage its at now is I tire fairly easily and am ready for bed pretty much by 9:30 p.m. and earlier at times.
ANYWAY, thanks for the food offer but it is not in my future.. I'll let you enjoy my portion of those maggotty looking thangs.. I'm sure its just the visual that looks so disgusting. I haven't acquired that taste yet and hope I never do.. lol!!!!
I am particularly tired today and don't know why . So I am closing down the office and computer and head out for my completely adjustable stuffed comfortable recliner with massage and heat.. Likely fall asleep in it and miz micro is gonna scream in my ear to tell me its time for bed.. She enjoys doing that.. Wait'll she finds a garter snake in her bed.. The neighbors will all hear her..
