In Virginia you will need a PERMIT to BUY a firearm.
So you’ll need to take the class to get a PERMIT.
You’ll need to go to the range and pass the test so that you can get the PERMIT to BUY a gun.
I think the permit will cost $75, plus the cost for a day at the range with a certified instructor, cost to rent a gun,etc.

I had to do that for my license here in Ohio a bunch of years ago.. We even had to pass a live test as well as written exam to get our license to carry. And we had to register with the state and have a permit to carry.

I think that crap is over with here now..
