19-year-old Tara Ashley Palmieri has attracted a lot of attention on social media after police body camera footage detailing her arrest appeared on Mikey Pipes’s YouTube channel, Cuffed by Cops. The footage captures Palmieri being detained after a supposed traffic incident in New Smyrna Beach, which led to an alleged felony charge. The incident, captured from police body camera footage in Volusia County, serves as a record of events that led to Palmieri’s arrest and the heated argument she had with law enforcement authorities inside her garage.
What Police Say Happened
According to coverage from Cuffed by Cops, officers from the New Smyrna Beach Police Department were investigating a hit and run on Pioneer Trail when Palmieri allegedly drove past an officer at high speed. Police say Palmieri was driving a white 2024 Ford Mustang when she passed another vehicle in a marked no passing zone and sped toward an officer who stepped into the roadway and signaled for her to stop. The officer said that Palmieri did not slow down, did not brake, or follow commands directly, he added. He had to get out of the lane, he said, to avoid being hit.
How Officers Tracked Her Down
Minutes later, officers found the Mustang parked in a nearby residential neighborhood. When they got to the garage where the vehicle was discovered, they found that the hood was warm, meaning the car had been driven recently. Police made contact with Palmieri inside the garage, and she acknowledged encountering the officer while continuing to drive regardless. She said she thought the man was just an individual in white and black and not an officer, and that he wasn’t fully in front of her vehicle. Officers dismissed that explanation, telling Palmieri she had been given clear hand signals to stop and that the episode was videoed on a body camera. She was immediately detained.
What Is Tara Ashley Palmieri Being Charged With?
Palmieri was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement, which is considered a felony in Florida. She repeatedly challenged the officer’s account during the encounter, insisting she was driving at the speed limit and requesting to meet with a supervisor. The responding officer informed her that lights and sirens were not needed because he was in full uniform and had ordered her to stop. The officer also told Palmieri and her father over a phone call that another individual at the original crash scene had witnessed the incident being filmed — and that footage from his body camera showed her accelerating away.
Booking Details and Court Date
Palmieri had been booked with a $2,500 bond. Her next court date is December 3rd, 2025. Authorities said she subsequently posted bond and is pending trial.
