It's been an interesting day.

Mid-storm, I decided to give plowing a try. This was the first time with the new (very old) truck.

I plowed halfway down the driveway at about 1 mph, stopping before I got to the steeper part of the driveway, turned around and plowed back up. Not bad, though it's hard to tell when the plow blade is on the ground, or above the snow, or pressing into the earth. I went down and up again to catch what I missed. I returned to the house - ready to attempt the bottom half of the driveway - tried to reverse and the clutch died.

I'm assuming that's what happened. I heard a high whirring sound (the belt slipping?) first. Then the clutch pedal went soft. Then it firmed up again. I turned off the engine and now the clutch pedal won't push down at all.

The truck won't start when the pedal is up, so the truck is going to stay there until we bring in a mechanic or a tow truck.

#%@#$!

The car wasn't quite trapped by the truck, so I moved it to where I'd stopped plowing. Then I shoveled by hand to the bottom of the driveway and drove the car there. I put a couple of chocks down and that's where the car now lives. At least we won't be stuck in the house this winter! If the snow is deep, we may have to walk a quarter mile up and down - repeatedly if we're unloading, but it beats than the alternative.

My wife took a job two months ago. It's in walking distance, so away she went while I shoveled! I'll meet her there tonight so she doesn't have to walk back in the dark by herself. Our street hasn't been plowed yet. It's unpaved, so it's low priority for the plow trucks. That's how it works when you live in the middle of nowhere.
