we had similar circumstances growing up. We were poor too. It was the time in which we born. My father was a bright man. yet there wasn;t much work available. He had to move from Reading, PA to Cincinnati because ofits Machine Tool Industry to find a job. Grew up in a four room Sears and Roebuck house.

My bedroom and my borther's was the ATTIC. It was a little toasty up there in the summer... And in cincinnati very humid.

SO I know hardships. Those were great times as we enjoyed what we had and those other kids that around us in the same boat. We all played together and continued those friendships into our adult lives even after we had moved away.. I am still friends with a couple of them who have kept up..

I suppose there are some "charities" that make more money off these things than they give to the poor and needy. I personally do not know of any..

AND I don't believe for a second that an organization like Toys for TOTS, or Franklin Graham's or Mercy Ships is going to steal the money..

Sure there are some cons out there. But not every legetimate organization which assist the poor and needy all year long every year is one of them..

I would rather be obedient to Christ and give to the Poor out of the abundance HE has given to me.

I am glad HE does not look at me in the light you suggested. People doing Good work that Christ said we should be doing is never wrong or a bad thing. In fact, it is recorded in your book being kept in Heaven and one day we will be read those things..

Man was given ONE directive. PLEASE GOD.

When people were too stupid to know what that meant, GOD gave Ten Commandments. THEN He Gave HIS SON as an offering and sacrifice for payment of our sin debt.

DID ya know that every time you give to help someone a RECORD of that is recorded in Heaven in YOUR book of Life? Yep indeed. Every word you said or thought is also kept..

Noting is secret from God. He knows your thoughts and what is on yer mind. He hears every single word you speak or write.

There ARE NO SECRETS hidden from HIM.

LAstly, HE knows the INTENT of your heart and desires.

IF one is a Child of The KING, you willr eceive back from your FATHER more than you joyfully gave. He is a rewarder of those who love Him and diligently seek after Him.

Please do not be so suspicious of every organization that is doing what GOD wrote to do in HIS BOOK and has been doing that for decades. YOU can be a blessing to someone who needs help and less fortunate.

I hope you see where this is coming from my friend..
It is good to be suspicious of some but not of those who have been ministering to others for a long time and have a proven track record.

My best wishes for you always,

micro.

Re: “I feel for people living in very tough conditions and wondering where their next bite to eat will come from..”
I hear people whine about how poor they are. Then I tell them that my family of six lived for a year in a 16' trailer with no A/C, no water, no bathroom, no refrigerator. In the winter mornings, the walls would have a quarter inch of ice on them from our breath.

If we needed to use the bathroom during the night, we either used a Clorox bottle or we had to get fully dressed and then walk a hundred yards to the bathroom/shower area. But it was warm so I'd hang out there for a while before returning.

I was a kid and I had one toy. It was a car tire I'd found. My brother had one too. You'd be amazed at how much fun a tire can be.

When I tell this story, the people whining to me usually shut up real quick. Not many of them have it as tough as that.

You know what? It was all FINE. We weren't miserable. We didn't want or need anyone's help. And I suggest you look very hard into what charity you're planning to gift your money to because there's a very good chance your money will be wasted. Many charities siphon a majority of gifted funds into their own bank accounts, giving just a small portion to people who don't really need or deserve it. By and large, people who live like rats and - year after year - don't esape that situation are simply LAZY.
