Re: “...if I look for it in turbo tax there it is. I think Turbo sent it to the Cloud for safekeeping but I have no idea how to find it.”
Here’s a step-by-step guide you can copy and paste to help you locate your TurboTax files manually on a Windows 10 laptop:

How to Find TurboTax Files Manually on Windows 10
1. Open File Explorer
Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.

2. Search Common TurboTax File Locations
In the File Explorer address bar, try navigating to one of these folders:
C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\TurboTax
C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\TurboTax\2022
C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\TurboTax\2023

- Replace YourUsername with your actual Windows user folder name.

3. Search by File Extension
TurboTax files usually end in .taxYYYY (e.g., .tax2022, .tax2023).

In the File Explorer Search box (top right), type:
*.tax2023

Or to search all years:
*.tax*

Let Windows search your entire Documents folder or even your whole C: drive if needed.

4. Check TurboTax’s Saved File Path
If TurboTax opens your file automatically, do this:
- Open TurboTax.
- Go to File > Save As.
- Look at the folder path in the Save dialog — that’s where your file is stored.

5. Use Windows Search
Press Windows + S and type:
*.tax*

- Then click Documents or This PC to broaden the search.

6. Check for Backups
TurboTax may also save backup files with .taxYYYY~ extensions.
Search for:
*.tax2023~*

Let me know if you'd like a version tailored for helping someone else (like a family member) or if you want to automate this with a script.
