Fiz > What happens if you go to a "service academy"? Do they let you major in basket weaving?

Absolutely not. These 'federal service academies' need to specialize in the sort of majors 'We the People' need. for one example - NASA needs rocket scientists. So one of the Academies might specialize in rocket science and the Mathematics required for orbital calculations.

And, yes, I would imagine there are some who might still make student loans. And with no government guarantees they will become a LOT more selective. And I would imagine, once those college with 'student loan programs' realize that they will 'EAT the losses' for defaulted student loans . . . They will become a LOT more selective about who they enroll.

And, yes, if one does not complete the course of education or if one tries to not fulfill their service contract they should be billed for the education.

zim "Problem number one. The only way the 'lenders' are going to 'make student loans' is if either A.) the government 'gives' them the money they are 'lending' . . . or B.) The government guarantees they won't 'EAT their losses'. "

First of all, I thought we already agreed the US government shouldn't be "guaranteeing" ANYBODY's loan?

But if the government stops guaranteeing loans there WILL still be some student loans -- just a lot fewer of them, and the lenders will be a lot more selective about the collateral, co-signer, and/or major.

What happens if you go to a "service academy"? Do they let you major in basket weaving? If you don't complete your education and do your service time, don't you have to somehow repay the academy?
