Re: “And a whole lot more.”
Trump isn't "owned" by anyone. There aren't many politicians I can say that about, and none of them could have beaten Hillary.

Kameltoe is a different story. I think many conservatives could have beaten her. But if the Republican nominee had been someone other than Trump, odds are good that she wouldn't have been there.

So I agree with you. There wasn't a better candidate than Donald Trump in 2024. Nor was there a better one in 2016. Republicans are lucky he stepped up.

2028 will be different. I think Republicans have at least four really good options. (I'm including Rubio, even though I'm not yet a fan.)

ribit: "Trump was not the best candidate in America,"

I agree with your conclusion that "If everything ya read about the Donald is true he would still be better than Hillary or Kamala or Tampon Tim."

But I disagree with your opening clause that "Trump was NOT the best candidate in America". He arguably WAS the best candidate if the best candidate needed:

(1) Vast name recognition so he could attract 20,000+ people to stadium rallies
(2) Enough money to afford a private plane to take him to said rallies
(3) Enough of the top lawyers in the world under retainer to represent him, successfully, in dozens of lawfair cases
(4) Nerves of steel and an obsession with winning sufficient to TAKE all the abuse of those dozens of lawfare cases, and come out snarling instead of shaking with anxiety
(5) A willingness to know he was at super high risk of being assassinated at any moment and, apparently, discount that both so he didn't show the least bit of anxiety and that he still was determined to win
(6) A family and a wife who would support him through all that -- and in spite of personal risks brought about by being in Trump's family
(7) Media experience almost as if he had starred, for years, in a top-rated, live television show like "The Apprentice".
(Cool A max five hour a night sleep preference and the energy level, in his seventies, that few people in their teens or twenties could actually match
(9) The luck of the Irish to actually TAKE a bullet that was perfectly aimed to blow out halve his brain, yet twitch in 1/10 of a second, with bullet in flight
(10) And when shot, actually stand back up, without thinking even a second, and pump his fist in the air saying "fight! fight! fight!"

And a whole lot more.

You add up all those prequalifications, even discount a few, and there likely wasn't a person on the planet who could have been better fit for the task than Trump. And CERTAINLY there wasn't anyone else in the United States who could have been a better candidate. Nobody since, maybe, Andrew Jackson or maybe George Washington would have had the mere fighting courage alone. At least I can't think of a person. Can you?
