I agree. There are many things I could try, but not when it's far from home. Moreover, if they didn't work, I'd be back where I started, needing to have it towed even farther for professional repair. (It's currently in a decent-sized town with a nearby auto-parts store and adjacent mechanic.)

Lots of possibilities. Grok was a good idea.

DE - I have a 1994 Exploder - it would not even crank due to the anti-theft crap kicking in. Disconnecting the Positive battery cable for a few seconds and then reconnecting reset the system and allowed starting. HOWEVER - the anti-theft systems on different years, different models have different ways of disabling and different requirements for resetting - so the previous verbage may be useless to you.
