Re: “I just won a pair of laptops (HP and Dell) for $21 + 18%. Their status is unknown.”The laptops were picked up today and DID come with their power cords. Consequently, I tried them and they work. Both are running Windows 7.

The HP Pavilion g had no password protection so it's immediately usable. It has a 111 gig hard drive, about 40% of which is in use with things like tax software and iTunes. I haven't looked beyond that.

The Dell Inspiron IS password protected. It was owned by Roxanne. That's all I've got.

So, good news! I wish I knew more about configuring Windows 7. I don't even remember how to get the usable one onto the internet.

I just won a pair of laptops (HP and Dell) for $21 + 18%. Their status is unknown. I don't even have their model numbers or know how old they are. As you can see, neither has a power supply. That makes the auctioneer's claim that he doesn't know if they work believable.

I took the gamble mostly because the auction also had some items that made me think the owner may have died: A walker, and a shower seat. For some reason, I think older folks tend to be "light" users of computers and that these laptops could well be in excellent condition. Of course, this board is probably a bad place for me to field THAT theory, but it is what it is.

This will wind up being a really good deal or one of the dumber auction wins I've ever had. There really is no middle ground.
