I just won a pair of laptops (HP and Dell) for $21 + 18%. Their status is unknown. I don't even have their model numbers or know how old they are. As you can see, neither has a power supply. That makes the auctioneer's claim that he doesn't know if they work believable.

I took the gamble mostly because the auction also had some items that made me think the owner may have died: A walker, and a shower seat. For some reason, I think older folks tend to be "light" users of computers and that these laptops could well be in excellent condition. Of course, this board is probably a bad place for me to field THAT theory, but it is what it is.

This will wind up being a really good deal or one of the dumber auction wins I've ever had. There really is no middle ground.

Today's auction was fun - even though I didn't win the main thing I wanted - an Ariens 24" Snow Blower that had hardly been used. My top bid was $200. It went for $260, so I wasn't totally out of the park. Those things sell for close to a thousand new, so getting it for $200 would have been nice. But, except when I really need something, I shoot for bargains. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

I wound up bidding on ten lots. (Often, I take an early interest in something only to see it sail out of my range before the auction really gets rolling. I don't even count THOSE items. I try to win things that are still a good deal in the final minutes. SOME people will enter their top bids days ahead of time, a practice that just makes me shake my head.) Of the ten that I tried for, I won seven. That's an extremely high win percentage considering that my bids are usually LOW. It's also what made this auction fun.

I spent a total of $45.60 - including the 20% auction house commission. I won five ornate candle holders for $2.00, two mechanics' floor dollies (what they sometimes lie on when they're under your car) for $1.00 and the three men's hats to the right for $1.00. The best deal was perhaps a Braun 200-watt hand mixer with four attachments, for $11.00. I'll post a photo below. Because of the variety of brands, models, watts and attachments, I'm not finding an exact match on either Amazon or Ebay. But I'll guess based on what I AM finding that our lot is worth $140 new, $60 used on Ebay (plus shipping).
