This is why I don't collect coins. It's too confusing. Rounds and bars are easier... they usually have their weight and purity stamped right into the metal.

I bought one Morgan dollar at auction this evening. I didn't get a noteworthy price - $30 + 15%, but I'm at least happy with the coin's appearance. Many of these circulated coins are so timeworn that the details can't even be seen. Not so in this case. Just look at Lady Liberty's hair and the crispness of the print...

Morgan dollars are pretty low in silver content... just 77% silver as I recall. So if I only valued the coin for its metal, I lost money on the purchase. It's probably worth $28. But it's sure purdy...
