They do. But suppose they don't. In a scenario where a deer is wounded but escapes from the hunter without being killed, usually it will die. Do you think it goes to waste? Nope. Nature claims it in a thousand different ways.

I saw a video today of a zebra caught by a crocodile as it attempted to ford a stream. It struggled and went down, then got up again, then down again, then somehow got free MINUS ITS FRONT LEG. That zebra might have gotten free but, obviously, it wasn't going to last very long. A pyrrhic victory. The croc didn't get the zebra (except for its foreleg) and the zebra was doomed, but it would not go to waste. Same for the rare wounded deer that a hunter doesn't kill.

Decomposed > Hunting is even kinder to the animals.

That is a highly debatable subject, De.
Where there are no 'natural predators' to cull the herds and keep the populations down . . . Herd animals like deer will overpopulate and eat everything possible - to the point that they are near starving for lack of food. In which case hunters become necessary.

But I would hope that our 'mighty hunters' do eat what they kill.
