the losing side always has better ideas.

The North's strategy was simple. We got ten times more manpower so we're just gonna run you out of people to kill.
Eventually ya just wear down the other side despite battle outcomes. One side cannot afford the losses while the other has no issues at all with replacements.

Moral? He who has the most wins.

Jackson was the most talented General for strategy in that war. Longstreet imo was the best at getting the work done up until that massacre at Gettysburg.

Dumbest attack and assault ever planned.. Longstreet tried his best to get Lee to change his mind to no avail. He foresaw what was going to happen.

ONLY if ya can get both sides of a confrontation to agree to go their separate ways as nations will that work. It hasn't fared too well for the lesser militarized country wanting to do that.

I agree it would be better if there was AMICABLE agreement and that split could occur peaceably.

I just don't see that happening. Hope I am wrong.
