...not the history I remember. Vietnam was pre-reagan. Democrats (Kennedy / Johnson) were running the show. We were prepared to fight the last war. Supplies were outdated. The helmet we used was the same as were used in WWII and Korea. Body armor weighed a helluva lot more than was comfortable to carry. The notion of Proportionality in war was rearing it's ugly and stupid head amongst all the democrats running the place. The notion of winning had been replaced with the notion of "fairness". The joint chiefs were a joke. If Lincoln and Grant had used those philosophies the civil war would still be going on.

Re: “America has never gotten in a war because it was too strong. Ronald Reagan”
I think an argument can be made that Reagan was wrong. And the evidence for it is in YOUR war, Vietnam.

Would we have gotten into that war if our military hadn't been strong? Of course not. We got into it because we had, hands down, the best military on the planet. It was so strong that we got careless. We went around looking for a fight, not expecting to really find one. Oh, did we find one. We were so strong that we got into a fight we didn't need to be in and then LOST it, not because we weren't strong enough but because we didn't have the heart or stomach for the ugliness of war.
