my simple Canon with a scanner on the top doesn't have any of those issues. It just works. I don;t have a cable running to it for the internet or installed software to connect using the wi-fi.
Its a model MG 3620 bought at Walmart for very little.

It scans and copies and has separate Color and Ink cartridges..

Walmart has it for $73.00, Amazon $69.00

Copies and prints letter and legal size.

I've had this for about five years and never had a problem.

Yep. I've got the same problem! It has a BLACK cartrdige, of course, in addition to the three colored. But it can't print black without colored because, well, because!

Anyone else noticed how things are just getting more fragile -- rather than better? My Brother printer+fax from thirty years ago still works fine (only sans wireless). But all my five year old newer printers have problems.

And when I look at the newest models they are all, deliberately, severely downgraded in one way or another. In particular, they crave "internet" so they can *automatically* order new "authentic" BrOTHER cartridges when THEY want more money! Or is it just that they want to collect pictures when I go to Hooters?
